these are rather old shots from last year but i played around with b&w this time — they were initially meant for an assignment, dropped if after not getting a strong story from it. contrary to the oft musical performance, a quiet air of pensiveness permeates pre-show, as if the actors were all reciting their scripts in their minds a thousand times over and over again. i still remember that asking the performers for their names produced pseudonyms, “just call me ah pang,” one said. but when they stripped off their fare they became more “real”, joked around and proceeded to tell me their true names. like every other good actor, upon assuming the costume, they became — and not just acted out — their roles.
